Pakistan Says Iran Has “Not Conveyed Any Message” on US Talks Closure
The clarification follows claims by media outlets suggesting that Tehran had halted engagement aimed at preventing further conflict, reportedly after US President Donald Trump issued a warning about the destruction of an entire civilization.
Other reports also indicated that Iran may have stopped direct communication with Washington in response to the same remarks, although discussions through intermediaries regarding a possible ceasefire were said to be ongoing.
Trump had earlier stated: "a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again" — a comment that intensified uncertainty as his set deadline approached.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar accused Israel of undermining diplomatic efforts by launching an attack on Tehran at a critical moment.
"A dangerous development took place last (Monday) night. Israel attacked Iran at a stage when both sides (Washington and Tehran) were set to sit down," Dar told lawmakers in the Pakistani Senate.
He added that progress toward talks had been encouraging prior to the escalation. "We were very optimistic (about talks) before (Monday) night," he said, noting that both Iran and the US had agreed to hold discussions in Islamabad with Pakistan acting as facilitator.
