Pakistan Considers Sending Troops to Gaza
(MENAFN) A decision regarding the deployment of Pakistani forces to Gaza, as part of an international stabilization mission under a US-mediated peace arrangement, is "in process" and has not yet been finalized, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated on Tuesday.
“This thing has to be finalized, (and) it is in process. The government will take a decision after passing through the process, and I don’t want to preempt it,” Asif told a news agency.
He further emphasized that the administration of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will ensure that parliament and all relevant institutions are fully informed and consulted before making a final decision on the matter.
According to US President Donald Trump’s 20-point strategy aimed at ending the Gaza conflict, a phased ceasefire arrangement between Hamas and Israel, facilitated by regional and international mediators, came into effect on Oct. 10.
The first phase of the plan involves releasing Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and a partial Israeli withdrawal.
It also outlines the reconstruction of Gaza and the formation of a new governing body independent of Hamas, alongside the potential deployment of a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF).
No concrete arrangements have been confirmed at this stage, although Indonesia and Malaysia have already pledged to send peacekeepers to Gaza.
Since October 2023, Israel’s genocidal military operations have reportedly resulted in over 68,500 deaths and more than 170,300 injuries, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
