Typhoon Ragasa Poised to Make Landfall in Southern China
(MENAFN) China is on high alert as Super Typhoon Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of the year, barrels toward its southern and eastern coastlines. The storm, which intensified significantly on Sunday, is projected to make landfall between early and late Wednesday, striking coastal zones from Shanwei in Guangdong Province to Wenchang in Hainan Province, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).
Forecasters report that Ragasa has maintained rapid movement and powerful winds, making it the most intense typhoon to threaten China in 2025. The storm is expected to bring widespread disruption, with authorities already mobilizing emergency response plans across multiple provinces.
From Tuesday through Thursday, regions including Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Fujian are forecast to be hit with heavy to torrential rainfall, with localized areas possibly receiving up to 280 millimeters. The typhoon’s effects will also extend northward, bringing significant rain to parts of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces.
Emergency officials are urging local governments to evacuate vulnerable communities, reinforce infrastructure, and tighten safety protocols for transportation, maritime travel, and urban management ahead of the storm’s impact.
