UN Voices Support for China-U.S. High-Level Discussions
At a routine briefing on Monday, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, stated, "We welcome and encourage high-level dialogues between the world's two largest economies because their economic relationship has an impact on the global economy." His remarks came in response to inquiries about the two-day trade negotiations held in Madrid, Spain, from Sunday to Monday.
A senior Chinese official described the talks as candid, in-depth, and constructive, conducted with mutual respect and equal consultation. Economic and trade issues of shared concern, including the topic of TikTok, were among the key discussion points.
Li Chenggang, China’s international trade representative and vice minister of commerce, highlighted at a briefing that both sides fully acknowledged the critical importance of maintaining a stable economic and trade relationship between China and the U.S. He added that such stability plays a significant role not only for the two nations but also for global economic stability and growth.
