Sister wins over her brother in regional Florida election
The siblings’ mother, LaVon Wright Bracy, appeared to support her daughter’s campaign, acting as her campaign manager according to social media. LaVon Bracy Davis is widely expected to win the upcoming general election in September in this liberal district.
The seat was previously held by civil rights activist Geraldine Thompson, a close family friend who passed away earlier this year. LaVon Bracy Davis positions herself as carrying forward Thompson’s legacy of “justice, progress, and service.” The Thompson family also endorsed LaVon in the primary.
Randolph Bracy expressed disappointment over his sister running against him, calling it “hurtful.” Historically, LaVon endorsed Thompson over her brother when he ran against Thompson in a 2024 primary, suggesting complex family and political dynamics.
Both siblings have served in the state legislature before, with Randolph previously holding a different state senate seat and running for the US House in 2022. The BBC has reached out to both for comment.
