Russia Accuses European Nations of Influencing IAEA Report
According to Lavrov, Israel launched strikes on Iranian targets shortly after the United Nations' atomic oversight body declared Tehran in violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
This determination was made in spite of Iran’s insistence that its uranium enrichment activities are strictly for civilian and peaceful objectives.
The United States later joined the Israeli military campaign just before officially declaring a ceasefire agreement between the two nations.
During remarks at the Primakov Forum in Moscow on Tuesday, Lavrov criticized the conduct of European officials, accusing them of coercing IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi into issuing a highly critical report against Iran.
“The Europeans have taken a purely neocolonial position... They were actively preparing Grossi so that he would put the most ambiguously negative formulations into his report,” Lavrov asserted, implying that the phrasing was deliberately constructed to cast Iran in a negative light.
He further claimed that Britain, France, and Germany—followed by the United States—relied on the IAEA’s findings to push a formal resolution through the agency's Board of Governors.
This resolution condemned Iran on the grounds of its supposed NPT violations, which Lavrov portrayed as part of a coordinated political strategy.
