Rostec Introduces Laser-Equipped Robot
This new technology, which is still unnamed, was displayed at an industrial technology exhibition held in the Tula Region of Russia.
Rostec showcased the prototype on Tuesday, emphasizing its potential applications.
Based on its specifications, the robot is intended to render safe landmines that are fitted with remote-trigger mechanisms, which pose extreme risk during manual disposal.
The integrated laser device is reportedly strong enough to melt the outer shell and dissolve the internal explosive content.
Rostec stated that the robot is powered by a battery and can be operated remotely from a range of several kilometers.
This degree of autonomy allows the machine to be used in dangerous conditions, including combat zones.
The robot is mounted on tracked wheels and powered by an electric engine, enabling it to travel at speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour.
It is fitted with dual cameras, including one that functions in infrared, according to the company.
Reports indicate that the development phase has advanced to the point where it is ready for large-scale manufacturing.
