Netanyahu alleges to know where Iran’s uranium enriched is stored

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed to possess “interesting intel” regarding the whereabouts of Iran’s enriched uranium following recent US airstrikes on Tehran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

During a press briefing on Sunday, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel knows where Iran’s 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% is stored but declined to share further specifics.

“We’ve been following that very closely. I can tell you that it’s an important component of a nuclear program. It’s not the sole component. It’s not a sufficient component. But it is an important component and we have interesting intel on that, which you will excuse me if I don’t share with you,” he said when questioned about the location of the material.

He also reported that the US bombing of the Fordow underground nuclear site involved bunker-buster munitions and caused damage, though the full extent was unclear.

Netanyahu justified Israel’s actions as a response to Tehran’s accelerated nuclear weapon development efforts after the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in September 2024. He further accused Iran of expanding its missile program with plans to produce 300 ballistic missiles monthly.

The Israeli leader stated that his country is now “very, very close” to neutralizing what he described as the combined threat of Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.

“We won’t pursue our actions beyond what is needed to achieve them, but we also won’t finish too soon. When the objectives are achieved, then the operation is complete and the fighting will stop,” he told reporters. “Israel is very close to the goals that we have set in the campaign against Iran.”

Iran consistently denies any intentions to develop nuclear weapons, maintaining that its nuclear program is peaceful. Earlier this month, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles continue to grow but remain below weapons-grade levels.

Tehran began increasing uranium enrichment after the United States withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump.

Iranian officials have accused Israel of exaggerating threats to justify military escalation and warned that further attacks will be met with a strong response.
