Turkey’s defense industries Secretariat efforts earned recognition within NATO
(MENAFN) Haluk Gorgun, head of Türkiye’s Defense Industries Secretariat, emphasized on Tuesday that the Turkish defense sector’s rapid production capabilities and flexibility have earned significant recognition within NATO, including at the highest levels.
Speaking during the NATO summit in The Hague, Gorgun told Anadolu Agency, “The agility in production, production speed, and capacity expansion agility (in the Turkish defense industry) have sowed high-level awareness at NATO, at the secretary general level, especially considering the current global context.”
He noted that Turkish defense firms have been actively involved in NATO summits over the past two years. To strengthen this engagement, the secretariat has established a specialized unit dedicated to increasing the participation and visibility of Turkish companies in NATO activities.
The secretariat takes part in all NATO working groups, leads some such as the supply chain security sub-group, and promotes Turkish companies’ involvement in joint projects and procurement within the alliance.
“By establishing a NATO-related unit at the secretariat, we are trying to ensure that our companies are more involved in NATO activities, while also increasing our visibility on the NATO side,” Gorgun explained.
Highlighting advancements made during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s two-decade leadership, he pointed out that Türkiye now manufactures its own defense platforms and subsystems, which has further enhanced the sector’s production agility.
