Van Fire Kills Six After Collision in Pakistan

(MENAFN) At least six individuals lost their lives and 10 others suffered injuries when a passenger van erupted in flames following a collision in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, rescue officials reported Tuesday.

The tragic incident occurred on the Western Bypass in Quetta, a major thoroughfare in the provincial capital, where the van collided with a rickshaw, igniting a fire that quickly engulfed both vehicles. Muhammad Zeeshan, manager of operations at the Edhi Foundation’s rescue unit in Quetta, explained the circumstances to media.

Zeeshan revealed that the rickshaw was illegally transporting petrol, which dramatically worsened the fire’s intensity. “The van caught fire immediately after the collision due to the petrol, leaving passengers little time to escape,” he stated. “The fire spread rapidly, trapping many inside the vehicle.”

Emergency teams responded swiftly to the crash site. They rescued the injured from the burning van and transported them to nearby hospitals, where at least two victims were reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the accident, focusing particularly on the illegal carriage of flammable substances in passenger vehicles—a persistent and dangerous issue in the region.
