Laos Rolls Out Nationwide Campaign to Curb Student Dropouts

(MENAFN) The Ministry of Education and Sports in Laos convened a four-day workshop starting Monday, aiming to design a powerful nationwide campaign that underscores the importance of education, curbs student dropouts, and broadens access to fundamental schooling throughout the country.

The sessions concentrated on crafting compelling scripts and storytelling methods for a video intended to emphasize the necessity of remaining in school. This initiative urges Lao communities to view education as the cornerstone of both personal life and professional success.

This meeting represents the government’s preliminary move to confront the persistent problem of high dropout rates, which have been largely fueled by economic difficulties and skepticism about the value of education, according to a media report on Monday.

Economic and social pressures have caused a noticeable drop in students’ commitment to their studies and reduced parental encouragement. The planned education-focused video aims to engage audiences and inspire the broader Lao society to recognize the critical role of schooling.

During his remarks, Outhit Thipmany, deputy director general at the Research Institute for Educational Sciences, highlighted that education transcends individual accomplishment and serves as an investment in the nation’s future.

"We want to show families that education opens doors, builds self-reliance, and helps shape responsible adults. These videos will send key messages directly to parents and students, encouraging them to prioritize education for a better future," Outhit stated.

The campaign will roll out a collection of short videos designed to transform public attitudes.
These clips will be aired on TV, circulated through social media platforms, and incorporated into community outreach programs.

The Lao government is proactively addressing the factors influencing young people's welfare to boost enrollment and diminish dropout rates nationwide.
