Egyptian, Bahrain Presidents discuss Iran, Gaza situation over phone
(MENAFN) On June 21, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa held a phone conversation focusing on pressing regional issues, particularly the tensions involving Iran and the Gaza Strip.
According to official statements from the Egyptian Presidency, the two leaders voiced serious concern over the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. They highlighted the risk of the confrontation spreading further and warned of its potentially severe repercussions for all nations in the area. Both emphasized the urgent need for responsible behavior from all involved parties and insisted that the crisis be resolved through dialogue and peaceful negotiation.
The discussion also underscored the crucial role of the international community in addressing the situation and fulfilling its responsibilities to help manage the crisis.
Both leaders agreed that the current regional escalation stems largely from ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza. They called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to prevent worsening humanitarian conditions and stressed the critical importance of delivering aid to alleviate the suffering of the people there.
Furthermore, they reaffirmed that the only path to lasting peace and stability in the region lies in establishing a Palestinian state based on the borders as of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The conversation follows a recent escalation that began on June 13 when Israel carried out extensive airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military installations, killing several senior commanders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli sites.
