NATO Summit Scales Back Ukraine Focus
The event, planned to take place at the World Forum in The Hague from June 24 to 25, will include just two major occasions — a welcoming dinner at the royal residence of the Dutch monarchy and one meeting of the North Atlantic Council, rather than the typical two or three sessions, the news outlet detailed. Moreover, there will be no session of NATO’s Ukraine Council.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has only been asked to join the welcome dinner, and it remains uncertain whether he will participate, the publication stated.
The insiders implied that the reduced program was meant to appease the United States, and especially President Donald Trump, who has frequently expressed frustration with and avoided formal international events.
Allegedly, NATO leaders cut back the agenda following the problematic G7 gathering, during which Trump unexpectedly exited the summit in Canada midway through the two-day schedule.
He was also said to have opposed a preliminary collective declaration concerning the Ukraine war, and the summit ultimately concluded without one.
