Japan Warns of Stronger Earthquake, Urges Citizens to Stay Alert
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) confirmed that Akuseki Island, part of the remote island group in Kagoshima Prefecture, experienced three noticeable quakes — two on Sunday and one in the early hours of Monday. Each registered a level 4 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale, which runs from 0 to 7.
According to the JMA, seismic activity in the region began escalating on Saturday, with frequent shaking continuing through the weekend. The ongoing tremors have raised concerns about increased tectonic instability in the area.
Officials have warned that the continued pattern of shallow quakes could signal the possibility of a larger event. They are closely monitoring the seismic activity and advising residents and visitors to be prepared for further shaking.
