Ukraine Reports Seven Dead in Overnight Russian Airstrike
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko provided an update on Telegram, saying, “Twenty-two people were injured in the enemy's night attack on the capital. Currently, 12 of them are in city hospitals. The rest were treated by doctors on the spot. At this time, six people have been confirmed dead.”
The strike caused severe destruction to a five-story building located in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, where emergency teams continue their search and rescue efforts.
Klitschko also revealed that the explosion’s shockwave damaged apartments in a nearby 25-story residential complex.
Further damage was reported to commercial properties and private homes in several Kyiv districts, including Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Podilskyi, and Holosiivskyi.
Reacting to the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Moscow’s double standards. On X, he stated: “After the strikes on Iran's nuclear program facilities, there was a lot of uproar from Moscow — the Russian leadership performatively condemned the ‘missile-and-bomb’ actions.”
“Today, Moscow is silent after the Russian army carried out a completely cynical strike using Russian-Iranian Shahed drones and missiles against civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and other cities and communities of ours.”
Zelenskyy also mentioned a fatal drone strike on a hospital in Bila Tserkva, a city near Kyiv, and said that early reports suggest ballistic weapons from North Korea were involved in the capital’s attack.
Ukraine’s Air Force announced on Telegram that air defenses intercepted 146 of the 352 drones and 12 of the 16 missiles launched during the overnight raid. “The main direction of the attack is the city of Kyiv!” they confirmed.
As of now, Russian officials have not publicly responded to Ukraine’s accusations.
