Zelenskyy Urges Trump for “Clear Position” on Ending War
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday called for a “clear position” from US President Donald Trump regarding the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war, which has persisted for over three-and-a-half years.
“Before we end the war, I really want to have all the agreements in place. I want to have a document that is supported by the US and all European partners. This is very important. To make this happen, we need a clear position of President Trump,” Zelenskyy stated during an interview.
He made these comments in response to a question concerning Trump’s second state visit to the UK this week. The Ukrainian leader expressed hope that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer would engage in a "very specific discussion on the security guarantees of the US for Ukraine."
Addressing Trump’s urging for Europe to halt purchases of Russian oil, Zelenskyy remarked that he believes Washington possesses the strength to “take decisions of their own” and that the US leader could provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems.
"I'm sure the US can apply enough sanctions in order to hurt the Russian economy, plus Donald Trump has enough force to make Putin afraid of him,” he added.
Zelenskyy also agreed with Trump on the necessity for Europe to cease buying Russian oil and gas but emphasized that the US should not delay implementing further sanctions against Moscow.
“Europe has already introduced 18 sanctions packages against Russia. And all that's lacking now is a strong sanctions package from the US,” the Ukrainian president concluded.
